I keep saying we're
going to study more in-depth, and I want to, but I don't want that meaning we
are just rereading the same stuff over and over. I'm going to try, by the grace
of God through the Holy Spirit, to pick out a few of the many things we need to
comprehend more deeply and hopefully expound upon them. But first, the Bible
verses we are studying more-
Rev 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased
with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched,
and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
Rev 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the
fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed,
and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with
eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
Rev 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be
zealous therefore, and repent.
Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if
any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup
with him, and he with me.
Rev 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit
with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father
in his throne.
Rev 3:22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the
Spirit saith unto the churches.
Points to ponder-
- We can comprehend easily
enough how one can believe they have riches, goods, and need nothing, when
in truth they are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked. Spiritual
wealth is not something we measure as most measure their material wealth.
We can think we are spiritually rich too, but in truth be spiritually
destitute. This happens when we don't have a heart relationship with our
God, with our Savior, but rather a relationship in name only. When our relationship with God is in
name only- we are NOT known by our Savior. We fall among the many who are
false believers. Our Savior tells us emphatically that we will SAY we are
rich and need nothing when we ARE REALLY wretched and in need of
everything. We MUST examine our spirituality! Seriously! EXAMINE your
spirituality! Are you in need? Have you bought of Christ all you need
spiritually?
- We must BUY of CHRIST. And
the first step to buying anything of Christ is ACKNOWLEDGING our NEED of
what ONLY CHRIST can give us! Can you buy without a need? Sure. People buy
stuff for perceived future needs. People buy stuff because they want,
without needing. But if you NEED something, you know why you need that
something. You will not you need anything, without knowing your need. Even
if the need is as simple as satisfying a desire, a need to satisfy that
desire. You know why you need. And to buy something from someone- you know
why you need to do that, right? To buy of CHRIST we have to know what we
need from Him, we have to know what He has to offer us, what He and He alone CAN give to us that
no other can give.
Christ
alone can give us 'gold tried in the fire', 'eyesalve', 'white raiment'. NO other can give us these things, no one!
When
we acknowledge we have this need to buy from Christ, we must ASK Him for these
things! We must ask Him. Have you ever
asked a person how much they wanted for something- fully expecting to have to
pay for the thing you want only to be told to take it at no cost? The intent,
the expectation was buying, it was having to pay for something. We are to buy
from Christ with the same comprehension. We are in NEED of what He has to give
to us, but we can't pay for it. When we ASK for what we need, He will give it
to us freely, at no cost to us, He will absorb the cost Himself. He will gladly
give us ALL we need comprehending we have nothing to pay with. We do not have
anything of spiritual worth except what He can give to us. He does not NEED
anything we have to offer Him in exchange for what we NEED of Him. We do NEED
to buy it though with the comprehension we need these things so greatly it's as
if we needed them desperately enough to pay for them. They are WORTH so much,
these spiritual needs are to be prized greatly, they are to be comprehended as
being the most costly things we possess!
Freely given to us but at a price we can scarcely comprehend. Our Savior
PAID for all that He gives to us!
- What are we to buy from
Christ? Gold tried in fire.
Jas
2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath
not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom
which he hath promised to them that love him?
Gold
makes us rich and we are to be rich in FAITH.
This spiritual gift only our Savior can give us!
Mal
3:2 But who may abide the day of his
coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire,
and like fullers' soap:
Mal
3:3 And he shall sit as a refiner and
purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as
gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in
righteousness.
A
refiner's fire! Purged!
1Co
3:12 Now if any man build upon this
foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
1Co
3:13 Every man's work shall be made
manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire;
and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
Revealed
by fire!
1Pe
1:7 That the trial of your faith, being
much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire,
might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus
Christ
Our
faith MORE precious than gold that perishes, even though that gold is tried
with fire.
SPIRITUAL
GOLD. Spiritual gold tried with
spiritual fire.
Faith. Is there any spiritual gift more precious,
more tried than faith?
Heb_11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please
him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a
rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Rom
4:13 For the promise, that he should be
the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but
through the righteousness of faith.
Promises
though faith! There is a righteousness of faith that we are in desperate need
of, and only our Savior can give us this righteousness of faith. Faith is
tested and tried.
Heb
11:4 By faith Abel OFFERED unto God a
more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was
righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
Heb
11:5 By faith Enoch was TRANSLATED that
he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for
before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
Heb
11:6 But without faith it is impossible
to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he
is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Heb
11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God
of things not seen as yet, MOVED with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of
his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the
righteousness which is by faith.
Heb
11:8 By faith Abraham, when he was
called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance,
OBEYED; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
Heb
11:9 By faith he SOJOURNED in the land
of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and
Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
Heb
11:10 For he looked for a city which
hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
Heb
11:11 Through faith also Sara herself
RECEIVED strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was
past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.
Heb
11:12 Therefore sprang there even of
one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and
as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.
Heb
11:13 These all died in faith, not
having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded
of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims
on the earth.
Heb
11:14 For they that say such things
declare plainly that they seek a country.
Heb
11:15 And truly, if they had been
mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had
opportunity to have returned.
Heb
11:16 But now they desire a better
country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their
God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
Heb
11:17 By faith Abraham, when he was
TRIED, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his
only begotten son,
Heb
11:18 Of whom it was said, That in Isaac
shall thy seed be called:
Heb
11:19 Accounting that God was able to
raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.
Heb
11:20 By faith Isaac BLESSED Jacob and
Esau concerning things to come.
Heb
11:21 By faith Jacob, when he was a
dying, BLESSED both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of
his staff.
Heb
11:22 By faith Joseph, when he died,
MADE mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment
concerning his bones.
Heb
11:23 By faith Moses, when he was born,
was HID three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child;
and they were not afraid of the king's commandment.
Heb
11:24 By faith Moses, when he was come
to years, REFUSED to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;
Heb
11:25 Choosing rather to suffer
affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a
season;
Heb
11:26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ
greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the
recompence of the reward.
Heb
11:27 By faith he FORSOOK Egypt, not
fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
Heb
11:28 Through faith he KEPT the
passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn
should touch them.
Heb
11:29 By faith they PASSED through the
Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.
Heb
11:30 By faith the walls of Jericho FELL
down, after they were compassed about seven days.
Heb
11:31 By faith the harlot Rahab PERISHED
NOT with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.
Heb
11:32 And what shall I more say? for the
time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of
Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:
Heb
11:33 Who through faith SUBDUED
KINGDOMS, WROUGHT RIGHTEOUSNESS, OBTAINED PROMISES, STOPPED THE MOUTHS OF
LIONS,
Heb
11:34 QUENCHED THE VIOLENCE OF FIRE,
ESCAPED THE EDGE OF THE SWORD, OUT OF WEAKNESS WERE MADE STRONG, WAXED VALIENT
IN FIGHT, TURNED TO FLIGHT THE ARMIES OF THE ALIENS.
Heb
11:35 Women RECEIVED THEIR DEAD RAISED
TO LIFE AGAIN, OTHERS WERE TORTURED, not
accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
Heb
11:36 And others had TRIAL OF CRUEL
MOCKINGS AND SCOURGINGS, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:
Heb
11:37 They were STONED, they were SAWN
ASUNDER, were TEMPTED, were SLAIN with the sword: they WANDERED about in
sheepskins and goatskins; being DESTITUTE, AFFLICTED, TORMENTED;
Heb
11:38 (Of whom the world was not
worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of
the earth.
Heb
11:39 And these all, having OBTAINED A
GOOD REPORT THROUGH FAITH, received not the promise:
Heb
11:40 God having provided some better
thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
Heb
12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are
compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every
weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience
the race that is set before us,
Heb
12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and
finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the
cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of
God.
And
through FAITH all other things are obtained!
1Co
13:13 And now abideth faith, hope,
charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
1Jn_4:16 And we have known and believed the love that
God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and
God in him.
Heb_11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please
him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a
rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
God
is love, and we come to God through faith, and faith is -
Heb_11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped
for, the evidence of things not seen
2Pe
1:1 Simon Peter, a servant and an
apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us
through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
2Pe
1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto
you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
2Pe
1:3 According as his divine power hath
given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the
knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
2Pe
1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding
great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine
nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
2Pe
1:5 And beside this, giving all
diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
2Pe
1:6 And to knowledge temperance; and to
temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
2Pe 1:7 And to
godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
