'Let us often
consider that our only business in this life is to please God, that perhaps all
besides is but folly and vanity' --quote
from - Practice the Presence of God - Brother Lawrence
Ecc_1:2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher,
vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
Truth- so much in
our lives stems from vanity.
noun, plural vanities.
1.
excessive pride in one's appearance, qualities, abilities, achievements, etc.; character or quality of being vain; conceit:
2.
an instance or display of this quality or feeling.
3.
4.
lack of real value; hollowness; worthlessness:
We live in a world
that prides ITSELF on teaching vanity to its children. We tell them to focus on
themselves, to love themselves, to be the best they can be, that they are
everything and deserving of everything and so on. Anyone saying those things are wrong are told
they are crazy. We need to instill pride in kids because sometimes it's all
they have. We go to therapists as adults seeking to know self-worth, to find
pride in ourselves. Why do we need so much self-worth? Seriously? This world we
live in focuses on self-worth and think people are horrible monsters when they
don't encourage self-value in someone.
No, I'm not for
demeaning anyone. I wouldn't want a parent to demean a child, but on the other
hand parents shouldn't put into a child a sense of self before God in
anything!
Imagine raising a
child with the belief that God's will is first and foremost. You'll probably imagine a fanatical Bible
thumper, who goes door to door to share their good news. Or you'll imagine the
stereotypical crazy Jesus freak who just needs saving from their brain washed
life. You rarely think about the selfless, giving person that has no airs about
themselves. You don't think about the person who genuinely cares about others
before themselves. You fail to imagine the soft-spoken, kind hearted person as
one who has put God first in their life.
When Brother
Lawrence says this…
'Let us often
consider that our only business in this life is to please God, that perhaps all
besides is but folly and vanity'
Our ONLY business in
this life IS to please God.
True or false?
Do we even allow
ourselves to recognize when we do NOT please God?
Do we know how to
please God?
Rom_8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot
please God
Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye
transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good,
and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Eph 5:17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding
what the will of the Lord is.
Col 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we
heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled
with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
Col 1:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto
all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the
knowledge of God;
Col 1:11 Strengthened with all might, according to his
glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
Col 1:12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath
made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light
Heb 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to
God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently
seek him.
Heb 13:16 But to do good and to communicate forget not:
for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him,
because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his
sight.
Joh 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is
the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
Joh 8:29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father
hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
Heb 13:20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from
the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of
the everlasting covenant,
Heb 13:21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his
will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus
Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
More on this
tomorrow by the grace and mercy of our LORD, our SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST!
Amen!
