We might have strong consolation...

Heb 6:16 For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.
Heb 6:17 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:
Heb 6:18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
Heb 6:19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
Heb 6:20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

We swear on the Bible. We swear on the lives of loved ones. We swear to God. We swear all the time in order to have others believe that we are being truthful, that what we say means something. Do you believe people lie all the time, even those who swear? They do. We call it perjury in court. We see it on television in shows *games* people are playing and swearing on the lives of their dear mothers, their sweet children and all the while they are lying and doing so- telling themselves it's only a game- just a game and lies in games of lying don't matter. It's hard to take anyone at their word especially these days. There was a time when a handshake was enough, but now we need contracts and contracts that are legitimate and binding in all the legal jargon. Even then people try to get out of contracts they've signed. Our oaths mean very little.

God's oath means EVERYTHING.

God will NEVER go back on His word, has NEVER gone back on His word, CAN'T go back on His word. God cannot LIE! Salvation is ours, we are His heirs of the promise! Each and every one of us is an heir of the promise. This is a STRONG CONSOLATION to us. We need to use these facts as consolation as life throws everything it can at us, everything that Satan will try and use to get us to turn from our God, our ONLY hope.

Consoling ourselves means what exactly? It's giving ourselves comfort in a bad situation. If you console someone who has lost a loved one you are trying to comfort them. If you are consoling someone that is going through a rough time you are trying to give them some comfort. We have to console ourselves with the knowledge that we are heir of salvation, that we have hope in Jesus. We need that comforting knowledge because without it we could easily become overwhelmed.

Heb 6:19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
Heb 6:20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

An anchor of the soul.
Sure and stedfast.
Entering into that within the veil! Entering into the Most Holy Place! Entering where our Savior is at the right hand of the Father. Jesus entered the place within the veil, a high priest forever deemed so by God Himself.

This is hope. This is our consolation. This is the salvation promised to us, the heirs of salvation.

How wondrous it is to know that we have a Savior, a High Priest ministering on our behalf behind the veil.

The promises of God to some mean very little and if we live only for this world they are nothing, they are meaningless to those who have no hope in eternity with their Savior. These are reality! God is reality! Jesus is reality! Eternal life is reality and Satan will stop at NOTHING to take that reality and make people believe it's all fiction. Satan wants us to lose hope, to have no faith in God or His promises.

By the grace and the mercy of our Lord and Savior we will hold fast to the promises of our God, we will cling to the knowledge we are heirs of Salvation through Jesus, that we can console ourselves knowing there is hope in a world that would have us live without hope. Jesus our High Priest lives and with this knowledge we live in Him.

Amen!
