Why do we need to know the sanctuary teaching?

Why do we need to know the sanctuary teaching? Wasn't it done away with when Christ died for us on the cross? Why does an outdated method of worship matter today? Do we even need to waste a moment of our time thinking about the sanctuary.

If you're a student of the Bible then you're a student of Biblical prophecy because the Bible is filled with prophecy from the very first book till the last. And, if you're a student of Biblical prophecy then you've come across a very important prophecy- the 2300 day/year prophecy.

If you have no idea of what I'm talking about at this point, I recommend you go here and commence a study on the books of Daniel and Revelation-

The 2300 day/year prophecy was pivotal in the early 1800's when knowledge became divinely increased and suddenly all over the world various men were gaining understanding they never had before of these prophecies. In the United State's William Miller was one of these men and as the prophecy unfolded before him he could show through the Bible and History that the end of the 2300 day/year prophecy would occur in 1844.  However by divine mandate He wasn't allowed to see it all and he misinterpreted this part of the prophecy-

Dan 8:14  And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.

He determined mistakenly that the sanctuary was the earth and that Christ would return which would cleanse the earth of sin. So he set a date for the end and when it didn't happen he set another date figuring they were off a bit and when that date didn't bring the second coming of our Savior he was bitterly disappointed, him along with most of his followers which believed he'd been divinely led by God.

A small group of these believers didn't latch onto the disappointment and let it turn them from the truth unveiled. They searched the Scriptures diligently and realized that the Sanctuary to be cleansed was the Sanctuary in HEAVEN. The very Sanctuary (though different edifices of that sanctuary over those years)  that the earthly Sanctuary used for thousands of years until 70AD, as a TYPE, as and EXAMPLE.  The earthly was based off of the heavenly!  The pattern of the earthly was the heavenly!  There was a continuing work to be done in HEAVEN and the 2300 day/year prophecy ending herald the beginning of that cleansing work.

So tell me, do you understand now why it's so important for us to study the Sanctuary? We were given a type, an example and through that example we can comprehend the work being done on our behalf in heaven.  There is a reason, a very valid reason for our Savior's work and the reason for the allotted time for probation for mankind. There is a reason for the orderly services of the Sanctuary on earth and in heaven.  God is not a God of confusion.

1Co_14:33  For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

There is understanding.  Prophecy even predicted the bitter disappointment those early prophetic followers underwent, we cannot throw away an entire unveiling of prophecy because of disappointment and God's word tells us that His saints will not.

We need a more thorough comprehension of the Sanctuary and by the grace of our Savior we will be guided to understand through an outpouring of the Holy Spirit opening our spiritual sight, and filling our hearts with the love of our Savior.

"LET THEM MAKE ME A SANCTUARY" XXXV - 1 (02)

The key doctrine of Adventism is the teaching and understanding of the Sanctuary
of which God gave the blueprint to Moses.

The Psalmist could sing, "Thy way, O God is in the sanctuary" (Ps. 77:13).

The God of Israel was revealed as One who "dwellest between the cherubim" (Ps. 80:1).

The conclusions drawn and the lessons to be learned are based on the principle of type and antitype. But to correctly  state the truth of the antitype, one must be sure that all that the type reveals is included in the deductions made.

One cannot take one part of the type as just ceremonial, and a corresponding part typical.

For example:

On the Day of Atonement, Aaron in his capacity as High Priest was instructed to provide a bullock "for a sin offering ... for himself and for his house."

He provided the sacrifice, but he DID NOT place his hands on it in confession as he did the bullock he was required to bring should he lead the people into sin.

Is one situation to be considered just a literal ceremonial act with no typical significance, and the other typical, or were both to have typical significance?

We dare not make an interpretive error on this point, as the blood of the bullock provided by the High Priest for the Day of Atonement became a part of the blood used in the final cleansing at the Altar in the Court.

(((Remember we are discussing prophecy and the fact in the year 1844 the 2300 year prophecy was over and then the Sanctuary was to be cleansed. So when we are studying the Day of Atonement- the day set aside once a year, a high holy day set aside for the cleansing of the sanctuary from all the sins it accumulated over that year, we MUST pay close attention, very close attention!))))

"We have many things to learn, and many, many things to unlearn. God and heaven
alone are infallible."

"Let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them."

(((Exo_25:8  And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them. ))))

In the directive given to Moses by God on the mount - "Let them make Me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them" - two factors are indicated:

1) The sanctuary was to involve human construction - "Let them make Me" - and
2) God would dwell therein - "I will dwell among them."

The very essence of this directive was PROPHETIC. Of the Word, John would write: "The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us" (1:14).

Here again are the same two factors. The Word came to be (egeneto) flesh - He came into humanity - and tabernacled (eskhnwsen) among us." Further, it shall ever be.

In the revelation of the earth to come, a great voice out of heaven is heard saying, "Behold the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them" (Rev. 21:3).

In the holy city, New Jerusalem, there is "no temple for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it" (Rev. 21:22).

However, Scripture reveals another tabernacle, designated "the true tabernacle (skhnhV), which the Lord pitched, and not man" (Heb. 8:2).

Here the contrast is emphasized. The one at Sinai, man was asked to make; the heavenly, the Lord "pitched."

The relationship between the two as defined in Scripture forms the basis of the doctrine of the sanctuary.

Perhaps we should summarize what the above revelation in Scripture is telling us:

1) Both the tabernacle "pitched" by Moses, and the "true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched" were of temporary duration,
2) Only the "Word made flesh" who in Himself embodied all that the "tabernacle" pitched by Moses symbolized remains eternally. It was He who could say to John: "I am the Living One, and was dead; and behold, I am alive forevermore, Amen" (Rev. 1:18, Gr.).
3) The "true tabernacle which the Lord pitched" was set up in Heaven. It was not heaven itself.

The heavenly "tabernacle" was pitched" to serve as the place of ministry for Jesus Christ as High Priest forever after the Order of Melchizedec. The earthly tabernacle "reared" by Moses (Ex. 40:17-18) was served by the Order of Aaron.

The relationship between these two Orders needs to be clearly understood for this is basic in the doctrine of the sanctuary.

We'll stop here and continue tomorrow, God willing.

The summary above speaks clearly-

The tabernacle pitched by Moses.
The True tabernacle the Lord pitched.

Two tabernacles.

The first is a heavenly tabernacle pitched by the Lord.
The second is the earthly tabernacle pitched by Moses who followed the instructions given by the Lord.

The first tabernacle, the heavenly was pitched for the SAVIOR to minister in.
The second tabernacle, the earthly was pitched to symbolize all that the heavenly sanctuary was first created for- Our Savior.

The plan of SALVATION is encompassed in the heavenly and earthly sanctuary and this is why we can read this-- 'Thy way, O God is in the sanctuary' (Ps. 77:13)   Is there any doubt that we should give this study of the sanctuary our full attention? Praying for comprehension, for full understanding?

Please, Savior, guide us to all truth, in all things!

Forgive us.
Bless us.
Keep us in You!

By YOUR love!
