Mat 5:2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them,
saying…
Mat 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as
the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the
corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you,
They have their reward.
Prayer-
Entreat, make
supplication, intercede.
When you pray.
Not IF you pray, but
when you PRAY.
You WILL pray, and
when you pray Jesus is telling them and us, that we aren't to pray like those
who LOVE to pray in public, desiring to be seen by others.
Prayer is talking to
God- entreating God, making supplication to God, asking for intercession from
God. Prayer isn't something you EVER do to be seen by others. Your relationship
with God isn't something you use to impress ANYONE, ever! If we are praying in
public to use that image to impress others then we are very far from knowing
God, let alone truly speaking with Him. Those who USE God in this way have a
reward and it's NOT the reward of eternal life with our Savior.
Mat 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy
closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in
secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
When we speak with
God we are to do it in SECRET.
God sees in
secret. God knows the heart of those
praying, He knows their sincerity. God will reward those who do NOT pray with
selfish aims.
Mat 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions,
as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much
speaking.
If we pray NOT from
the heart but using words that are void of all true meaning, void of all
sincerity then we are speaking in
vain. People who pray rehearsed prayers,
prayers that are in truth VAIN repetitions- speaking the same things over and
over and over again, these people will NOT be heard, they can't be heard
because they aren't speaking from their hearts in any true way. They are
speaking and believing that by repeating words over and over that they'll be
heard, but that's NOT what God wants from us! He wants words from our HEART,
words from the depths of our spirit! God wants our LOVE, not something twisted
and done just to do it, without any true feeling at all.
Mat 6:8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your
Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
Our FATHER knows
what we need even before we speak, before we ask. Our FATHER knows us! HE KNOWS US!
I love this verse--
Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our
infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the
Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be
uttered.
This says so
incredibly much!
Jesus doesn't stop
this message without telling us more about prayer. More tomorrow all by the GRACE OF GOD!
